Description

How to Use ND Filters: An Introduction

The NiSi 100 x 150mm Horizon Line Graduated Neutral Density 1.2 Filter can be applied to darken the sky, specifically along the horizon during a sunrise or sunset, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image.

This filter achieves its effect with a 1.2 band of density across its center region that provides up to a 4-stop reduction in light from entering a lens. The band of density extends approximately 1.25″ in both vertical directions before tapering to clear below and above, with soft-edged lines of transition before the clear areas. The clear areas then extend approximately 2.3″ until they meet the top and bottom edges of the filter.

A narrow 1.2 band of density with larger clear areas directly above and below it allows the NiSi 100 x 150mm Horizon Line Graduated Neutral Density 1.2 Filter to specifically match the positioning of the sun when it is at, or immediately above, the horizon. In such instances, the sun will appear closer to the center of an image as opposed to the upper edge, and an increase in brightness is created which is much more prominent on both sides of the sun than either above or below it. This pattern of brightness corresponds to the density pattern on the 100 x 150mm Horizon Line Graduated Neutral Density Filter 1.2 Filter. The soft-edged lines of transition in this filter are useful for images that have features alongside the sun that cannot be confined within the band of density.

This filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 2mm-thick, 100mm-wide rectangular filters and is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. Each glass surface includes one layer of nano coating. The nano coating associated with this filter results in an improved beading effect when in contact with water or oil for greater cleaning efficiency.

A leatherette pouch is included with this filter for storage and transport.

How to Use ND Filters: Beyond the BasicsThe NiSi 150 x 150mm Nano IRND 3.0 Filter is an ND filter with a 1,000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters. The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. To provide a high level of neutrality across the visible and infrared spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks when using the NiSi 150 x 150mm Nano IRND 3.0 Filter, one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating is applied to each of this filter's surfaces. The Nano coating associated with this filter also results in an improved beading effect when in contact with water or oil for greater cleaning efficiency. This NiSi 150 x 150mm Nano IRND 3.0 Filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity, and measures 2mm thick.150 x 150mm neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.Providing a 10-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.Filter does not affect coloration of the image and is ideal for use with other filters. Each surface includes one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating that attenuates infrared light as well as visible wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure times.Nano coating provides an improved beading effect with water or oil for more efficient cleaning.Constructed from optical glass for clarity.Leatherette pouch included for storage and transport. How to Use ND Filters: An IntroductionThe NiSi 150 x 150mm Nano IRND 1.8 Filter is an ND filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a 6-stop exposure reduction. Filters placed within the NiSi 100mm System Filter Case are each held within one of eight nonabrasive slots. This rigid filter case features a leatherette exterior and magnetic closure.
